Like fingerprints, every woman’s body is unique. So is her menstrual flow. Finding the right tampon fit not only assures the wearer of comfort but also helps to avoid potential accidents. In addition to finding the appropriate tampon for your menstrual needs, purchasing the right feminine hygiene product is just as important. After all, the ingredients in your tampon should not be harmful to your health.

Finding The Right Tampon Size

Did you know that using the wrong tampon at the wrong time during your period can cause leakage? You might want to go for the smaller tampon size, which is fine if your flow is mild rather than heavy.

Compact tampons applicatorsAccording to
the American Family Physician (AFP):Extremely Heavy Bleeding:
Some women have extremely heavy periods and are often worried about tampon absorbency. However, there is a difference between heavy periods and menorrhagia. “The term ‘abnormal uterine bleeding’ encompasses noncyclic and cyclic bleeding. Anovulatory bleeding is the most common type of noncyclic uterine bleeding. Menorrhagia is defined as excessive cyclic uterine bleeding that occurs at regular intervals over several cycles, or prolonged bleeding that lasts for more than seven days.”

If you experience above-average heavy menstrual bleeding, make an appointment to see your gynecologist. There are several types of non-invasive medical treatments, such as: oral contraceptives (birth control pills), tranexamic acid, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), oral progesterone, hormonal IUD (Liletta, Mirena.)

All of the above medicative methods are said to help reduce unusually heavy menorrhagia bleeding. If medications fail to treat menorrhagia, more aggressive procedures include: dilation and curettage (D&C), uterine artery embolization, focused ultrasound surgery, myomectomy, endometrial ablation, endometrial resection, and lastly, hysterectomy.

Veeda Compact TamponsLight Bleeding: Usually the heaviest bleeding occurs at the very beginning of your cycle, with regular bleeding at the middle point, and a lighter flow toward the end. Light bleeding also means shorter periods, approximately 1 to 2 days. Spotting can sometimes occur between periods, as well.Veeda Tip: For regular flow, try using Veeda regular, hypoallergenic applicator tampons. You’ll know when you need to change it by tugging lightly on the string. If the tampon remains put, you haven't soaked it enough. On the other hand, if it easily slides out, then it needs to be changed. The general rule is to change your tampon every four to six hours, or sooner if need be.Regular Bleeding: What constitutes regular bleeding? You can gauge your bleeding by paying close attention to how often you need to change your tampon. Are you soaking it within an hour or two? Are you passing blood clots? Most women can tell if their period is heavy, normal, or light by the amount of blood that passes. On average, one to six tablespoons of menstrual fluid is excreted each period.

Lighter than average periods shouldn’t be cause for concern, though unusually light periods can indicate pregnancy. Age is another reason, once a woman enters perimenopause, her period might shorten and lighten. Being underweight or stressed, lacking ovulation, or having PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) can equally cause lighter menstruation.

Veeda Tip: For lighter periods, try using our light applicator tampons.

What’s BPA & Why Veeda Tampon Applicators Are BPA-Free

What is BPA and why is it bad for you? Since the 1960s, bisphenol A (BPA) has been used in polycarbonate plastics found in bottled beverages, and other consumer goods, as well as in epoxy resins that coat metal products, such as canned food and PVC pipes (water lines) found in 70 percent of homes. It is also in bottle caps.

According to the Mayo Clinic, exposure to BPA can lead to health-related issues:

“Exposure to BPA is a concern because of possible health effects of BPA on the brain, behavior and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children. Additional research suggests a possible link between BPA and increased blood pressure.”

The good news is that Veeda plastic tampon applicators contain absolutely no BPA. The 100-percent natural, non-GMO cotton we use to make our tampons is transported directly from the field to our state-of-the-art facilities, thus reducing cross-contamination. We only use natural ingredients, which means our tampons contain no chlorine, rayon, pesticides, fragrances, harmful chemicals, or dyes.
